French
The French as a Second Language (FSL) program aims to develop skills in four components: communication, language, culture, and language learning strategies. In terms of communication, students work to improve their listening comprehension, reading comprehension, oral production and written production. Students will explore the themes of School, People Around Me, and Weather as they are engaged in various communication activities. The linguistic elements of the French language are also studied, including sounds, written symbols, vocabulary, word order, and grammar. By studying French culture, students develop intercultural skills and knowledge. Overall, the ability to understand, speak, read, and write French allows students to communicate with French-speaking people around the world, to understand and appreciate the history and evolution of their cultures, to benefit from travel and to develop a competitive advantage in the work force.
